Model Y Feels Like a New Car on AVATA
Thanks for your great service when I bought these wheels. Unfortunately I didn't buy them for their look or appearance. We live on a dirt road and drive on rough regional roads. The OEM Model Y 19" tyres are wholly unsuited to these conditions. I fitted 255/50R18 106V tyres on your beautiful 18x8.5 AVATA wheels. This provides good weight bearing, and just enough sidewall height and bulge, while maintaining the original diameter so that the speedo does not need correction. 255/50R18 is an uncommon size and 255/55R18 appears to be the sweet spot in the SUV tyre market. I might forgo speedo accuracy and get the extra sidewall height when I replace the tyres down the track.
I am very happy with the performance on rough roads. The bonus is that I'm getting better efficiency, lighter and more conventional steering feel, a touch more acceleration and responsiveness.....and yeah they look great even though they are covered in dust. The smaller wheels/higher profile tyres take stress off the Model Y's harsh, crashy suspension so that the car is more comfortable and stable under all conditions.
A small downside is a little bit of helicopter-like noise from the wheels at times. Are there any aero covers available? That would eliminate the noise and provide even more efficiency.
Overall great wheels, good price and helpful service.
